We had the best time on the absolutely spectacular motorbike food tour in Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) Vietnam with XO Tours!
We had high hopes (the TripAdvisor reviews are amazing, and it was rated one of the top 9 food tours in the world by Forbes!) and it 100% lived up to the hype, we absolutely loved it – it was genuinely our favourite trip / tour that we have ever done whilst travelling! We think this is an absolute must do in Ho Chi Minh City.
We ate a huge range of amazing dishes in loads of different local restaurants. All of them were outside of the main touristy areas so we got to see a whole different side to the city.
In total we had over 10 main dishes with loads of different meats and seafoods (beef, chicken, goat, lamb, oyster, crab, scallops, tofu, duck embryo egg plus loads more) and it was all fantastic! (Unlimited food, soft drinks and beer are included as standard, and if you preferred one dish over the others you could get as much of any of the dishes as you want). The food is also catered to dietary requirements and how adventurous you are (you don’t have to have duck embryo!)
The tour guides were super friendly, spoke perfect English and were really knowledgeable – as well as the food stops we stopped off at a couple of local landmarks where they explained more about Saigon’s history and culture, which was really interesting.
We had never driven scooters at this point, and were a little nervous about riding scooters in such a big city, but helmets were included, the drivers were super safe, and the tour included accident insurance as standard just in case! (This was also a great test run at going on a scooter before renting one for ourselves later in the trip).
Honestly we cannot recommend this tour highly enough – it was amazing! If you still aren’t sure, we made a short video about our time on the tour: https://youtu.be/m6vrRhoXYoA
We did the foodie tour which costs 78 USD per person for the group tour, or 108 USD per person if you want a private tour with no other people. It was well worth it in our opinion. The only place to book is on their website: https://xotours.vn/
If this is a little pricey, there are other motorbike tours that are almost as rated highly, but we obviously can’t comment on these as we haven’t done them (but please do your research and make sure they include insurance as we know some don’t).
Disclosure: we were given a free food tour with XO in return for a YouTube video showing our experience on the trip. We were already going to do the XO Tour anyway, all the opinions expressed in this post and in the video are entirely our own, and we were under no obligation to post on social media and are only doing this because we genuinely loved it and want other people to experience such a great trip!
A final point – we loved that it was a really ethical business. All the tour guides are women, as the founders wanted to improve access to jobs in the tourism sector for women, and they order a silly amount of food to make sure everyone can fill up on the favourites but then give all leftovers to homeless people!
